In a recent interview, he spoke to us about the reasons he decided to explore the film industry on foreign shores. He said, “One of the reasons I wanted to go to America was that here, people had started calling me veteran, thespian, legend. Yaha, har kisi ko legend bol dete hain, when they reach a certain age. Legends are people like Dilip Kumar saab, Raj Kapoor saab, Mr Amitabh Bachchan, Robert De Niro… I am proud of the work that I have done, but titles like these often come with some connotations.”
The actor, who has brushed shoulders not even with actors of the younger generation like Varun Dhawan in ‘Main Tera Hero‘ and Aditya Roy Kapur in ‘Dawant-e-Ishq‘, further said, “It’s like people saying that you have done enough work, so we will now give you a lifetime achievement award and you can walk into the sunset. I do not want to carry the burden of being Anupam Kher on my shoulders. And yes, I wanted to feel like a newcomer, as far as my craft is concerned. Sometimes, it is good to unlearn because what you have learnt before becomes a burden.”
