I signed the film because of its story: Anandhi
It is a technically strong and content-rich film: I was impressed when Thamarai sir narrated the script to me. The story — set against a college backdrop while touching upon politics — really got me excited. With the likes of MS Prabhu sir and composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas on board, I was sure the project would be interesting in every way.
Shooting for the movie was fun: It is an out-and-out commercial film, and we’ve wrapped it up in 40 days. As the shooting for various portions took place in hill stations, the experience was more or less like a fun trip. Shooting for this song under Viji master is an absolute learning experience because she is a perfectionist.
The movie will cater to all sections of audiences: Sam Jones
On his character: I had to reduce 17 kilos for my role. The movie, which will cater to all sections of audience, is set against the backdrop of a college. I play a guy from a lower middle-class family, and my characterisation and body language have been woven accordingly. I’m a badminton buff in the movie, and I had to learn the nuances of the sport as well.
On his experience shooting for the film: It was good to have a co-artiste like Anandhi — the way she improvises is interesting to observe. Mic Set Sriram plays my friend, Munishkanth essays my father’s role and Surekha Vani plays my mother. I was happy when Karu Palaniappan sir said he liked the script and came on board. Having someone like Venkatesh sir as part of the project is a big boon for us.
On roping in choreographer Viji: We wanted the song to have a vibrant mood, and hence, chose to shoot it in this hill station. As this is a female-oriented song, we felt Viji master would be able to do justice to it.
Film is based on a real incident: Thamarai Selvan
On the lead actors: Sam, who is producing the film, shows no signs of being a debutant producer. He worked for three months to lose weight for a certain portion in the movie. Anandhi has lent great support to the story, thanks to the way she has portrayed her character.
Artistes were chosen based on the script’s needs: Vela Ramamoorthy, Munishkanth, Karu
Palaniappan and A Venkatesh, among others, play significant roles in the film. The movie, which is based on a real incident, has Madurai as its backdrop, and we have chosen to narrate the story in a realistic manner. We have chosen all artistes based on the requirement of the story.
Technicians are an asset to the film: Cinematographer MS Prabhu is like the backbone for this film. This project needed an experienced person, and he really fit the bill. He ensured that we got beautiful visuals. Art director Arasu, too, was instrumental in coming up with suggestions and correcting me whenever he felt that I was taking too much cinematic liberty. Dhibu Ninan Thomas has come up with good songs, which will be another highlight of the film.
Working on the film was a learning experience: Viji Sathish
It was good to choreograph movements for a song which talks about socialism. Another good part of shooting was that we could get a glimpse of how people in this part of the state live. It took us an hour-and-a-half to bring all the equipment to this hilly area!
