Chitrangada Singh has enjoyed herself thoroughly while shooting
Bob Biswas with
Abhishek Bachchan and Sujoy Ghosh. While it’s her first film with the actor, she nearly signed up for a project with the director. Describing her experience of working on Bob Biswas, which was shot in two schedules in Kolkata, Chitrangada says, “It was fantastic. I wanted to work with Sujoy for a very long time. We came very close to doing something together but it didn’t work out. I am glad this time we could collaborate on Bob Biswas. We finished shooting it in December 2020 but we started it in February 2020. The lockdown just extended the schedule. We had to go back and finish what we had started. I enjoyed the experience of this film more than I had thought I would. We were shooting outdoors all throughout. We went all around Kolkata and Sujoy loves doing that. I have done a lot of intense stuff earlier but this was different. As a wife, my character depicts the kind of struggle middle class women go through to keep their kitchen running. My character has intensity and shades. I loved it.”
Kolkata is known for food and sari shopping among other things. When asked if she had a chance to tour Kolkata, shop and relish some local street favourites, Chitrangada says, “We have shot there for almost a month and there were days when we were not shooting. So, I did go around Kolkata. We were staying at a hotel at Park Street. It was lovely. I love the food of Kolkata, especially the fish but I didn’t really go out and try anything locally. Everything I tried was at the hotel where we were staying. I didn’t even shop this time around but I do remember that I had picked up 20-30 saris from there a few years ago. There was a stylist who worked on Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. All of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s saris in that film were picked from this one seller in Kolkata. I bought saris for all the women in my family from there. I have a massive collection at home, already. So this time, I didn’t venture out to pick anything new.”
