Lately, Sam has been away from the screen. She was last seen in Jaanu in which she shared the screen space with Sharwanand. It was said that Samantha decided to take a step back from acting in order to spend more time with hubby Akkineni Naga Chaitanya. The rumours had also stated that Sam is planning to have kids with Chay with whom she got married in 2017. It suggested that the actress is looking forward to starting a family, which is why she is quitting her acting career.
In 2010, Samantha Ruth Prabhu made her debut in Tollywood with Ye Maaya Chesave, which was well received by the audience. Since then, she starred in films such as Brindavanam, Dookudu, Eega, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Attarintiki Daredi, Manam, S/O Satyamurthy, to name a few, most of which left an impression on the box office.
As mentioned, Samantha was last seen in C Prem Kumar’s Jaanu opposite Sharwanand. The movie turned out to be a debacle and failed to impress anyone. Jaanu was the official remake of the hit Tamil film 96, which had Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. It was produced by Dil Raju under his banner Sri Venkateswara Creations. The supporting cast included Gouri G. Kishan, Saranya Pradeep, Hasini Anvi, Vennela Kishore, Thagubothu Ramesh, Raghu Babu, Varsha Bollamma and Tanikella Bharani. The film has music by Govind Vasantha and Mahendiran Jayaraju has handled the cinematography for the venture. Praveen KL has taken care of the editing for the movie.
It is said that after Jaanu, the Oh Baby actress didn’t sign any project and has taken a sabbatical from her schedule. This was probably why reports started stating that Samantha is quitting Tollywood. While this development might have left Samantha’s fans disappointed, they can take relief. That’s because these reports are mere rumours. A source close to Samantha and her team cleared the air and said the Rangasthalam actress is very much into acting.
However, the 33-year-old has signed a mythology film titled ”Shakuntalam” with director Gunasekar. She recently took to Instagram to reveal that she has started prepping for her big-budget film which will be bankrolled by Neelima Guna under the banner of Gunaa Teamworks. Samantha will be seen playing the role of Shakuntala, one of the lead characters in Kalidasa’s epic Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam. Mani Sharma is on board as the music composer for the venture. She is also waiting for the release of her web series debut, The Family Man 2, which is slated to hit the web this summer.
