The director filed a complaint with the cybercrime police station after an individual named Naveen Kumar had duped him out of Rs 63,000. He was told that Bheeshma was nominated for National Award in various categories as it touched upon the topic of organic farming and was asked to pay a processing fee. And instead of sympathising, fans kept trolling Venky and pointing out that should any processing fee been paid, it would’ve been by the producer of the film and not him.
After a day or so of this, Venky took to social media to release a statement, clarifying his side of the story. “I’ve been receiving a lot of calls, besides being witness to a number of speculations, over a police complaint that I had raised a couple of days ago. Maybe I was ‘easy bait’ but haven’t we all been there?” reads the not. He goes on to explain what led him to pay the money, how he realised he was being duped and making it clear that instead of staying silent, such fraud needs to be dealt with legally.
“Many friends suggested I should not file a complaint and asked me to keep quiet. But should I? No. I went ahead and filed a complaint just to make sure that faudsters don’t repeat this with anyone else from our industry or anyone outside as well,” he wrote in the statement.
