“I have always been very conscious about the fact that, if you look at any of my projects, or the co-actors I’ve worked with whether it is someone with good 10 years experience or a newcomer who is just picking up, I never hesitate to work with fresh talent. I want to make it a point that everyone in the industry deserves a chance. I don’t want to be one of the people who just wants to work with experienced people. Then what is the difference between other’s and me. I don’t want to be someone who doesn’t practice what he preaches. If I complain that we don’t get a chance, then I can’t don’t do the same thing. I want to work with people who are talented. You have to give an opportunity to someone to know if that person has talent or not,” she shared.
Talking about how social media has become an important aspect of promotion and creating an awareness about a project, Hina said, “Now-a-days social media has become so popular that any maker, director, if you want to show them or introduce them to any talent, the first thing you do is go to that person’s social media or Instagram account.”
When asked about people getting work because of their social media followers, “To some extent I agree with what you are saying that today how many followers you have on social media, or the latest trends or views matter to many makers. When they decide who to cast for their project, the first thing they think is if they cast someone with strong social media followers they have the guarantee of getting those many views on their song or project. But eventually they come back to talent. Trust me on this. Because I feel if your work or a song or any other project is genuinely nice it will get eyeballs. This is my thinking. People who genuinely want to make good projects, films or even short films for them it doesn’t matter how many views an x person will bring in. End of the day we all know how the number game works for everyone. We all know and here I am talking about it everyone including me. Yes, I agree that people with strong social media followers get first preference but end of the day performance also matters,” said the actress.
Hina, who has worked in different mediums and has been part of several projects like daily soaps, reality series, web series and films wants to be known as an actor first. However, she doesn’t shy from admitting that during the pandemic she earned a good amount of money through social media, “For me it’s simple. I am an actor first. I have done a bouquet of projects which I have done in my life so far. I have a body of work, I am not taking away from anyone, everybody has. I have worked hard in my career and I am not known because of my Instagram. But my social media accounts are known because of me. I am personally talking about myself here, it’s my view, I don’t want people to know me because of my Instagram, or Twitter accounts. I want my social media accounts to be known by my name. But I can’t deny it’s reach. You have to make sure that you are constantly in touch on social media. Right now, I am out of touch on social media for obvious reasons. But otherwise I have always tried to match up with everybody. I know for us it is not possible to be 24/7 on social media like the other social media influencers which is good for them, fair enough. We can’t do that but still to match up to them (social media influencers) is in itself putting in a lot of effort. End of the day I still feel that you get work based on your talent,” said Hina.
She further added, “I won’t underestimate the power of social media. During the pandemic in 2020 or 2021 especially 2020 when we were in lockdown the entire year, I have made a good amount of money through social media and Instagram. But yes I agree it shouldn’t become a criteria for casting. There are good social media influencers as well but for me I want to be known as an actor first through my body of work.
Hina, who is still loved as Akshara from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai also spoke about the tough decision she took of quitting the show after eight long years, she shared, “When I left Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai I had nothing in mind. I had never thought about any image makeover or proving anything to anybody or to the world. I wasn’t thinking that I want to show my side to the world. It was not the case. I was just done with the show and I wanted to take a break. That’s it. But the whole game changed when I went inside the Bigg Boss 11 house. That too not when I was inside the house, it was when I came out of the show. I just wore different clothes in BB 11. When I came out I realised ‘oh my outfits are being liked’, people have seen me in different light, I have become this fashionista for them. That’s when I made a conscious decision that I will keep this going.”
