Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit told ETimes, “In the last lockdown too IMPPA stood by its members and helped them with their basic needs. Now that things are not looking good the EC has decided to follow the same procedure and help our members during these difficult times. IMPPA was gracious enough to donate Rs 10 lakh last time to the daily wage workers.”
There are about 20,000 members in IMPPA and several of them are in distress. IMPAA general secretary Anil Nagrath stated, “The producers are the backbone of the film industry as they bring in the money only then films are made and not many understand what a producer goes through. About 1200 members are in financial need and we are trying to support them.”
Meanwhile, several Bollywood celebrities are also stepping up in the time of need. Rohit Shetty has reportedly donated 250 beds for COVID support in Delhi while Amitabh Bachchan has made a donation of Rs 2 crore to a Gurudwara, which is helping COVID-19 patients. Salman Khan and Yash Chopra Foundation have come forward to help the cine workers by transferring money into their accounts.
