Geetu Mohandas, who has filmed her movie ‘Moothon’ in the island, shared that the voices of the people should be heard. “I shot Moothon in Lakshadweep. One of the most magical places with the most beautiful people I have ever met in my life. My heart goes out to each and everyone who reached out to me. Their cries were desperate, real. There is not much we can do apart from voicing our opinion collectively. Please do not disturb their peace, disrupt their ecosystem, their innocence. Not in the name of development. I hope it reaches the right ears. #savelakshadweep #istandwithlakshadweep Teepee Abid,” she said in her post.
‘The Priest’ actress Nikhila Vimal expressed that she cannot sit back and relax, while the atrocities are happening in Lakshadweep.
“Can’t sit back and say nothing about the atrocities that are happening in Lakshadweep right now. Feeling really helpless reading everything that’s going on there, and I must say it is injustice in its very highest form. I mean, all the previous administrators of the Union Territory have done things for betterment, and all of a sudden we have someone who wants to change laws that have been in place for generations? Playing around with schools, agriculture, healthcare, transportation, housing, he makes life tough for some of the nicest people in the world. A place that was a Green Zone suddenly has to deal with the pandemic because of his irresponsibilities. People have lost jobs they have had for years because the new Administrator wants his way. People cannot eat what they have been eating for generations because one man said so. How is any of this fair? Something needs to be done. Lets come together and #SaveLakshadweep,” Nikhila Vimal said in her Instagram post.
‘Ambili’ actress Tanvi Ram expressed solidarity with the ‘Save Lakshadweep’ campaign.
“For a place close to my heart, Lakshadweep! I hope you can withstand all that is happening, and all that might. I hope you stay the same, serene and innocent, happy and peaceful,
the people and places. As a place that I have been to and loved, it feels terrible to know the updates from the land. Public policies, I feel, it should reflect the sentiments of the common people. The new policies introduced by the current Lakshadweep administration, will destroy the ethnicity and heritage of this beautiful archipelago. We must unite against such heavy-handed policy implementation and stand with the people of Lakshadweep. Let’s stand united and fight this injustice together! #savelakshadweep #standwithlakshadweep,” the actress said.
Many other Malayalam actors and celebrities have expressed solidarity with the ‘Save Lakshadweep Campaign’ and it has triggered an outcry among the netizens and more are joining hands to express their unanimous support to the people of the island.
