In the movie, written and directed by Khais Millen, Surabhi plays a slum dweller named Muthulakshmi. Khais tells us, “The film is set in a period before the onset of the pandemic. Her character, like many others in the film, has to face a variety of issues from society, but isn’t in a position to react. She stays in a slum area named New Bharath colony, which was formed in 1947. Muthulakshmi is a very strong character.” The film also has Shalin Zoya, Binoy Antony and Murugan Martin in major roles. Khais says, “Except for a handful of known faces including that of Surabhi, the rest of the cast consists of newbies.”
The director adds that the movie also has a handful of children as the main characters, though it is in no way a children’s movie. “The production process of this film was four years long, as we had to show everything including the physical growth of the children to present the story in its entirety. More than 90% of the film’s shoot was in Chenkalchoola colony in Thiruvananthapuram. The shoot was wrapped up before the announcement of the lockdown.”
The movie’s music is by Ankit Menon and about two months ago, one of its songs, Poonkodiye, sung by Sid Sriram, was released. Most recently, its track Thala Pokki Pidiyeda Mone, sung by Gana Bala and Malathy, was also out.
