The first session of the meeting was chaired by the current president of the MAA, actor Naresh. The session that was held later was chaired by actress Jeevitha Rajasekhar. Over 150 MAA members virtually attended the meeting. The main topic of discussion was the upcoming movie artists’ elections. While some members have asked the board to make an immediate decision on polling dates, few others have asked the executive committee to take time to decide the same.
Naresh was reported to have said he’ll follow the instructions given by the discipline committee headed by Krishnam Raju. By rules, MAA elections must take place within 21 days of the AGM.
One of the presidential candidates in the upcoming elections, Prakash Raj was reported to have asked the board of directors to conduct the poll on September 12. He further reportedly asked the council to organize the elections on Sep 19 if things did not fall into place but not to delay it any longer.
One of the discipline committee members Murali Mohan reportedly said it is impossible to conduct elections within 21 days due to the present scenario of COVID-19. He also reportedly said they first need to seek permission from the government and that the poll should be conducted with all necessary COVID-19 protocols.
If it’s not on September 12, elections can be held on September 19 making sure that Ganesh Nimajjanam doesn’t fall on the day. If Nimajjanam falls on the same day, the election date may be postponed to September 26.
